Hey there,

This week, we’re focusing on developing and refining your creative style. Your unique style sets you apart and reflects your voice. Let’s explore how to find and cultivate it!

Your creative style blends your influences, experiences, and preferences. To develop your style, experiment with different techniques, materials, and subjects. Reflect on what resonates with you and what makes your work uniquely yours. This applies to not just art but many other areas of your personal and professional life.

Inspiration Corner: I've only ever worked in two mediums: crochet and pyrography. While I've dabbled a bit in drawing and painting, I never really committed to learning them. With pyrography, I didn’t settle on a specific niche or style—I just burned whatever sparked my interest. That started to shift about three years ago when I began hiking. The things I saw in nature found their way into my wood-burnings, influencing both my subject matter and style. I also realized I’m drawn to using all the white space, preferring dark backgrounds in my pyrography to make the designs pop.

Creative Challenge: Identify and refine your creative style. Here’s how:

  • Analyze Your Work: Look at your past projects and identify common themes, techniques, and elements.
  • Experiment: Try new techniques and materials to see what resonates with you.
  • Seek Feedback: Share your work with others and ask for feedback on what stands out.
  • Reflect: Consider what aspects of your work feel most authentic and satisfying to you.
  • Develop: Continuously refine your style by integrating new influences and ideas while staying true to your core elements.

Resource Recommendation: Read about developing a creative style. Books like Austin Kleon's Steal Like an Artist offer practical advice on finding and honing one's unique voice. Online platforms like Skillshare and CreativeLive also offer courses on developing personal style across various mediums.

Your personal style reflects your unique creative journey. Embrace the process of discovering and refining it, and let it shine through in all your work. Stay wild-hearted and true to your creative voice!

Cheers,

Petra Monaco
