#019 – Failure the best learning opportunity there is

Hey there,

I believe that failure is the best learning opportunity that can lead to change and growth. Failure is often seen as the end, but what if you see it as a stepping stone?

Embrace failure as a learning opportunity. Failures and setbacks are an unavoidable part of the creative process. When you can view them as opportunities you learn, you grow, and you improve. Reflect on what went wrong, why it happened, and how you can use this knowledge to do better next time.

About ten years ago, I opened up a brick-and-mortar store in a small town of 500ish people. I am a tiny store with the mission to support local artists in the community. It had been a dream of mine for some time and I was so excited to help other creatives like me.

After a year, I closed the shop. As much as I loved the idea of supporting artists and I still do, I didn’t love being “stuck” at the store. I wanted a bit more freedom to go about my day and life. I learned that running a physical location isn’t really for me.

Now I am in a different space, and through my Wild-hearted Creative Magazine, I get to support and share the stories and articles by other creatives. And I have my art in two locations for locals and tourists to purchase. I still get to help artists as I am the PR chair for one of the locations. My mission is never too far away, it just doesn’t look like what I had imagined it to be ten years ago.

Creative Challenge: Reflect on a recent failure and what you learned from it. Here’s how:

• Identify a Failure: Think about a project or task that didn’t go as planned.
• Analyze: Reflect on what went wrong and why.
• Learn: Identify what you learned from this experience.
• Apply: Think about how you can apply these lessons to future projects.

Failure is not the end but a crucial part of the creative process. Embrace it, learn from it, and let it fuel your growth and improvement. Stay wild-hearted and resilient on your creative journey!
