I can’t tell you how much embracing imperfection will help you to get started. Too many times there is focus on how it is not perfect, when the focus should be on completing the project.

Done is always better! Progress is better than perfection.

Actionable Tip: Embrace imperfection and just start creating. Waiting for the perfect moment or perfect idea can lead to endless delays. Start now and allow yourself to create imperfectly.

Inspiration Corner: I wanted to write a book about my growing up in the foster care system and the challenges I navigated with my parents as well as other people in my life. I started this book so many times because it didn’t feel right or ready and whatever other excuses I could come up with.

And then in 2007, my youngest son was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder that had three potential outcomes: brain damage, coma or death. When I say in that moment I knew that the time was then (now) I mean that. And since then I have lived in taking my ideas that excite me the most and run with them.

No they all didn’t work out but man the things I learned along the way, well worth it. I finished the rough draft of the book in just a few weeks. And seriously, rough drafts aren’t meant to be perfect. I published the book in 2009, full of imperfections but good enough for me.

For me it was about getting something done I had talked about. Not about the money or being a bestseller.

Creative Challenge: Begin a new project or finish one without overthinking it. Here’s how:

  • Choose an Idea: Pick one idea from your mind map.
  • Set a Timer: Spend 30 minutes working on it without worrying about the outcome.
  • Reflect: After the session, reflect on what you created and what you learned.
  • Continue: Keep building on it, adjusting and improving as you go.

Resource Recommendation: Read “The War of Art” by Steven Pressfield. This book offers valuable insights into overcoming resistance and getting started on creative projects.

Starting is often the hardest part, but once you begin, the momentum will carry you forward. Embrace the imperfections and keep creating.

Stay wild-hearted!

Cheers,

Petra
